BEDFORD The 16 winners from last weeks opening round of Brain Games XVI squared off Tuesday night at the Little Theatre of Bedford. The field has now been pared down to the elite eight which will do battle during the championship Thursday.

Brain Games is a fundraiser of the Lawrence County Museum of History. It is a test of general knowledge, with a few obscure questions thrown in for fun.

Tuesday night there were very close matches in the first five games, with the final three being not so close, in what appears to be a bottom loaded bracket.

Cosners Gun & Knife Shop got the best of Inklings Bookstore, 160-150. Then it was Ferguson-Lee Chapel of the Thorne George Funeral Home defeating Lehigh Cement Co., 110-100, in game two. Virgil I. Grissom Inc./Lawrence County Tourism beat the Bedford Hiking Club team, 130-100; and the Bedford Lions Club defeated Bedford Federal Savings Bank, 140-110.

In the lower bracket following the break, Bedford Furniture Galleries outscored Pynco 1, 190-70. Then the Rodney Fish & Family team defeated Bedford Rotary, 270-120. Tri-County Builders topped JKI Engineering, 230-100; and RSI beat StoneGate Arts &Education, 230-80.

During the championship, winners continue to play until an eventual champion is crowned.
