Local firm sets up puzzle game at Fanshawe Pioneer Village – London Free Press

Escape room aficionados can discover a new passageway into the past.

Exodus Escape Rooms has set up a game that will be played in three heritage buildings in Fanshawe Pioneer Village.

The puzzle game called Ransom is centred on a character true to London history: the village brewmaster.

He has been kidnapped and the players discover clues, solve puzzles and complete tasks hidden throughout the brewery that lead to the needed ransom money.

Exodus Escape owner Chris Costello said its a way to get the puzzle game concept into the community and give it a novel spin.

We are trying to be true to the pioneer spirit and having this really unique, authentic location will be attractive, said Costello.

Escape room businesses first surfaced in London two years ago and there are now five operating in the city.

Ransom is unlike the typical escape game which requires teams of players to find their way out of a locked room, but it does involve the same puzzle-solving skills.

Costello said there are other museums in Ontario that host escape and puzzle games, but Ransom is the first puzzle game in London in a community location.

He said there were no alterations made to historic buildings in designing the puzzle game.

We worked with what they had, what was already there.

The games start after the pioneer village closes at 4:30 p.m.

Marianne Levogiannis, marketing co-ordinator for the pioneer willage, said the partnership with Exodus brings in some rent revenue and exposes the park to a wider audience. Ransom fits the villages concept.

Thats what we do … We bring history to life. We are a hands-on museum and you learn actively though history so this is another added piece, said Levogiannis, who is an escape room fan.

The Ransom game starts today and bookings can be made by visiting http://www.exoduslondon.com/book-now

Ransom will run at Fanshawe Pioneer Village until Sept.30
